Contact your fund administrator for a beneficiary form.
Leave a Legacy
Giving through your trust or will is a powerful way to leave a lasting impact on the causes and organizations that matter most to you. By including a charitable bequest to Catholic Charities in your estate plan, you can provide vital support and make a difference for years to come. A charitable bequest allows you to designate a specific amount of money, property, or a percentage of your estate. This type of giving can also offer tax benefits to your estate and heirs, making it a wise financial decision as well as a philanthropic one. Whether you’re passionate about early childhood or adult education, refugee support, affordable housing, or relieving homelessness, a charitable bequest can help ensure that your values and priorities are carried on for generations to come.

IRA Charitable Rollover
Make a difference today and save on taxes. It is possible when you support Catholic Charities through your IRA.
A Qualified Charitable Distribution, or QCD, from your traditional or Roth IRA account is an easy way to support Catholic Charities’ life-giving work and avoid increasing your taxable income. Moreover, for those who are at least 72, QCDs count toward the IRA owner’s required minimum distribution (RMD) for the year.
Distributions from an IRA are taxable when received, but with a QCD, these distributions become tax-free as long as they’re paid directly from the IRA to an eligible charitable organization like Catholic Charities.
QCDs can be made either electronically or by check payable to Catholic Charities. Please see below for our legal name and EIN to be sure that your gift goes toward the people and programs you care about.
Lowering your taxable income may reduce the impact on certain tax credits and deductions, including Social Security and Medicare.
At-a-glance: Some requirements and restrictions to keep in mind:
Donor must be 70 ½ or older.
Gift must be made directly from the IRA to a 501c3 charitable organization. Gifts from 401(k), 403(b), and 457 plans are prohibited.
Gifts to all charities combined may not exceed more than $100,000 per individual taxpayer for the year.
Gifts may not be made to a donor-advised fund, supporting organization, or private foundation.
The gift is not included in taxable income; thus, no charitable deduction is allowed.
If you still have questions, please review the FAQs below or contact us at the information listed at the bottom of the page. Catholic Charities is not a legal or financial advising entity. We encourage you to reach out to a legal or financial advisor you trust before making these important decisions.
Ready to make your gift?
If you wish to make a charitable IRA rollover transfer, you can contact your IRA administrator and request them to transfer funds to the charity or charities you have chosen. Please be sure to use our legal name and contact information provided below to ensure your gift reaches us. We would be pleased to assist you by answering any queries you may have and guiding you through the process of making your donation. Tip: It is critical to let us know of your gift because many popular retirement plan administrators assume no obligation to notify a charity of your designation. The administrator also will not monitor whether your gift designations are followed. We would love the opportunity to talk to you about your intentions, and to thank you for your generosity.
Stocks
Making your gift of stocks, bonds, and mutual funds
Making a gift of appreciated stock is easy with the help of your tax or financial advisor. Donations of appreciated securities or mutual funds help Catholic Charities serve the most vulnerable populations while offering tax benefits to you, the donor. It’s also one of the most tax-savvy ways to give. If you donate stock, your gift goes further than if you sold that stock and donated the proceeds.
Benefits:
You are eligible for a charitable income tax deduction on the fair market value of the securities on the date of transfer
You pay no capital gains tax on securities you donate that you’ve held for more than one year
Donating stock can help you maximize your benefits while keeping cash on hand for you to use when you need it.
You can rebalance your portfolio. As always, we recommend that you consult your tax or financial professional for advice before making charitable donations.

how to make a stock transfer
1. Please notify our office of the transfer by contacting us at the information listed below. Informing us of an upcoming transfer will also allow us to identify and promptly acknowledge your gift.
2. To transfer your shares held with your broker directly to the Catholic Charities brokerage account, provide your broker/advisor with the following information:
DTC code: 0075
Account name: Catholic Charities
EIN: 85-0110070
Receiving institution: Morgan Stanley
(Morgan Stanley is a financial intermediary whose name might appear in any transactions.)
3. Please ask your broker to make sure to put your name on the transaction so that it can be identified in order for us to supply the appropriate tax documents.
4. Report the stock donation when you file your taxes with an IRS Form 8283, which is the form for non-cash charitable contributions. You’ll file this form with your tax return for the year you donated the stock.
Gift Annuities
What is a charitable gift annuity?
A charitable gift annuity is a contract between a donor and Catholic Charities with the following terms: As a donor, you make a sizable gift to Catholic Charities using cash or other assets. In return, you become eligible to take a partial tax deduction for your donation, and you receive a fixed stream of income from Catholic Charities for the rest of your life. The payments can begin immediately or be deferred to a future date that you choose. You may also establish a gift annuity for someone else; however, the total number of annuitants associated with any one gift cannot exceed two. The terms of the arrangement are set forth in a contract signed by you and Catholic Charities. The arrangement terminates on the death of the annuitant(s), at which point Catholic Charities will use the remaining funds on our programs.
How does a charitable gift annuity work?
First, you make a donation to a charity. Then, the gift is set aside and invested. Based on your age(s), you receive a regular fixed payout for the rest of your life. At the end of your life (as well as your spouse’s, if you’re giving as a couple), the charity receives the remainder of the gift. Individuals or couples can set up a charitable gift annuity. Your annuity can be funded with cash donations or non-cash assets. Minimum gifts for establishing a charitable gift annuity may be as low as $5,000 but are often much larger. You may also be eligible to take a tax deduction at the time of the original gift, based on the estimated amount that will eventually go to the charity after all the annuity payments have been made. A portion of the payments you receive may also be tax-free for a period of time based on your statistical life expectancy.
PAYMENTS
Charitable gift annuity donors (annuitants) receive payments for the rest of their lives. The size of your payment is determined by many factors, including your age(s) when you set up the charitable gift annuity. (For example, younger donors will typically receive more payments but they’ll be smaller.) The amount is fixed and will never fluctuate or adjust for inflation, but it’s also guaranteed and will continue for your lifetime no matter how well or poorly the investments of the annuity perform.
TAXES
You may be eligible to claim a partial charitable tax deduction for the year in which you set up the charitable gift annuity. The IRS views your contribution as part charitable donation and part investment. A second tax benefit may come by donating long-term appreciated stock or other property if the charity is able to accept these assets in place of cash. By donating non-cash assets, you can reduce or eliminate the capital gains tax you’d pay if you sold them first and then donated the proceeds. However, there is a potential tax drawback: part of your annuity income is taxable at the federal level, and possibly at the state level as well. The rules can be complex, so discussing the specifics of your situation with a tax advisor is essential.

Donate Real Estate
What are the benefits of donating appreciated real estate held more than one year?
Donating your real estate can unlock additional funds for charity and help your financial picture by:
Potentially eliminating the capital gains tax you would incur if you sold the real estate yourself and donated the proceeds, and increasing the amount available for charity.
Enabling you to claim a fair market value charitable deduction for the tax year in which the gift is made (which you may choose to pass on in the form of more giving). The fair market value can be up to 30% of your adjusted gross income. This can bring meaningful savings, especially if the property is worth a significant amount of money.
Freeing you from the hassle of selling the real estate. You can deed the property directly to Catholic Charities or ask your attorney to add a few sentences in your will or trust agreement.
Unburdening your heirs from a complex and expensive estate plan. A donation of real estate can be a great way to simplify your estate plan. When you donate real estate, you remove it from your estate, helping to reduce your estate tax burden on your heirs.
Ways to give real estate:
You can give real estate to Catholic Charities as:
An outright gift
A gift in your will or living trust
A gift through your Donor Advised Fund
A charitable remainder trust
A bargain sale
A charitable lead trust
A memorial or endowed gift
Types of real estate you can donate:
You can donate many types of real estate. Once donated, the property may be sold, used, or become part of a partnership to generate income from the property. Single-family homes are the most commonly donated, but almost any type of property can qualify, including:
Rental properties
Commercial buildings
Vacation homes
Undeveloped land
Historic structures
Apartment buildings
Agricultural land
In-Kind Donations
Catholic Charities’ Donation Center transforms community generosity into real, practical support for individuals and families across New Mexico who are working to rebuild stability. Many families exiting homelessness leave a shelter and step into an empty apartment with little more than the clothes they own. Items we often take for granted, like bath towels, bedding, dishes, or a kitchen table, can make all the difference in helping a space feel safe, comfortable, and truly like home. Through the Donation Center, our clients, including families transitioning out of homelessness, recently resettled refugees and migrants, and adult education learners working toward self-sufficiency, have access to essential household items donated by the community. Every donation helps restore dignity, provide comfort, and support a fresh start for parents, children, and individuals building a new chapter.
