The mission of Catholic Charities is to put faith in action to improve the lives of those in need. We provide services to promote self-sufficiency, strengthen families, fight poverty, and build community. As the local 501(c)(3) affiliate of Catholic Charities USA, we remain dedicated to finding solutions to some of the most pressing social challenges individuals, children and families face regardless of race, religion, color, country of origin, disabilities, gender, age, or sexual orientation.
Our Work
Catholic Charities of Central New Mexico partners with individual donors and local, state, and federal agencies to provide essential support to over 5,000 individuals every year. Through housing assistance, education, family support, and community engagement programs, we walk alongside individuals and families as they build stability and create new opportunities. Our work is rooted in dignity, compassion, and a commitment to strengthening the communities we serve.
Who We Serve
We serve individuals and families throughout Bernalillo, Sandoval, Valencia, and Santa Fe counties with a broad spectrum of services geared towards reducing poverty, improving personal opportunity, and encouraging opportunities for service. With about 85 staff members and over 200 volunteers, our agency has been working to create hope for those in need for over 80 years. Although grounded in Catholic Social Teachings and inspired by faith, Catholic Charities provides services to those in need regardless of faith.

What is your connection to the Catholic Church
Catholic Charities is an independent nonprofit organization that is part of the Catholic Charities USA network. While we share the Church’s values of compassion, service, and respect for human dignity, we operate separately from the institutional Church. We receive a a portion of our funding, about 4% of our annual budget, from the Archdiocese and individual parish contributions. Our programs are not religious in nature, and we serve people of all faiths and backgrounds, or none at all. Our mission is grounded in Catholic social teaching, but our work is about helping every person in need without exception.
How is Catholic Charities funded?
Our funding comes from a mix of sources, including individual donors, foundations, corporations, government grants, and a stipend from the Catholic Church. This diverse funding allows us to maintain independence, serve all members of the community, and ensure that resources go directly toward programs and services that make a meaningful difference.
